Market observers see the cryptocurrency's current strong performance in connection with important political decisions expected in the US over the course of the week.

Since the US election in November, the value of Bitcoin has risen by around three quarters.

Google hires Windsurf execs directly, leaving 250-person at Windsurf team behind

Google made a significant move in the AI talent competition by announcing an agreement to bring on founders and senior Windsurf research and development staff. While Google is not making a direct investment in Windsurf, it will acquire a nonexclusive license to certain Windsurf technologies. The total value of the agreement, covering licensing fees and compensation, is reported to be $2.4 billion.

The deal between Google and Windsurf comes after the AI coding startup had been in talks with OpenAI for a $3 billion acquisition deal, CNBC reported in April.

The majority of Windsurf's roughly 250 employees will remain with the company, which has announced plans to prioritize innovation for its enterprise clients.

US adds 147,000 jobs in June, with unemployment rate down to 4.1%

US adds 147,000 jobs in June, surpassing expectations, but 8,000 new positions were added in June compared with May, with unemployment rate down to 4.1%.

Job gains were seen in state government and healthcare, which saw increases of 47,000 and 39,000 jobs, respectively. Meanwhile, federal government job losses continued, with another 7,000 roles down in June, as the Trump administration continues to cut jobs. The total job loss in the federal government has been 69,000 since January.
