Hey there! 👋

Three things happened in tech this month that change how you'll staff your next engineering push. We unpack each one below—but first, what we're seeing on our side of the table.

Q2 snapshot from our network:

  • Senior LatAm engineer requests up 34% YoY

  • Average time-to-first-interview: 4.2 days (down from 6.1 in Q1)

  • Most-requested stacks: TypeScript/Node.js, AI-native QA engineers, Python/distrubuted systems

  • Time-zone overlap with US teams remains the #1 reason founders cite for choosing nearshore over offshore

If you're planning a Q3 scale-up, the senior bench is the tightest it's been since 2023. Worth getting ahead of it.

🌎 What's happening in tech — and what it means for hiring

Stay ahead of the curve with our curated industry updates, news, and expert insights that impact the tech landscape.

The April layoff wave: 20,000+ cuts in a single week

The story of April: Meta announced plans to lay off 8,000 employees (10% of headcount) with cuts beginning May 20, while Microsoft offered buyouts to roughly 7% of its US workforce on the same Thursday. Snap cut 1,000 jobs (16% of staff), citing AI streamlining, and Nike eliminated 1,400 roles concentrated in its technology org. Atlassian had already cut 1,600 in March citing AI-driven restructuring, and over 150,000 tech jobs have been eliminated across 500+ companies since January.

What this means for your hiring: Two things, and they pull in opposite directions.

1) A wave of senior US engineering talent is hitting the market—but they're expensive, and many will land at well-funded companies before you can recruit them.
2) The companies still hiring are doing it leaner: Atlassian cut 1,600 positions while announcing plans to hire 800 in AI engineering, ML ops, and AI safety.

The talent you couldn't compete for in 2024 is now reachable—especially in LatAm, where senior engineers with AI fluency cost a fraction of post-layoff Bay Area comp expectations.

Claude Opus 4.7 ships — and the AI coding tool stack just got reshuffled

Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.7 on April 16, 2026, and it became the default for Claude Code on April 23. The model hit 87.6% on SWE-bench Verified and 64.3% on the harder SWE-bench Pro, with Claude Code reaching a $2.5B annualized run rate. Per JetBrains' January 2026 survey of 10,000+ professional developers, Claude Code adoption has risen rapidly to match Cursor at 18% of developers using it for work, up 1.5x from September 2025.

"Comfortable with AI tools" is no longer a nice-to-have on your job spec—it's the differentiator between engineers who ship at 3x and engineers who get caught in the next reorg. Across our iDelsoft Talent Network, we've seen a 60%+ jump in candidates listing Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex experience on their profiles in the last 90 days—the talent is moving fast.

The 67,000 open software engineer jobs: hiring is up, but not for juniors

TrueUp data published April 3, 2026 shows more than 67,000 open software engineering roles at tech companies—the highest level in over three years and roughly double the mid-2023 trough, with a ~30% year-to-date increase as companies invest in generative AI.

But the rebound isn't evenly distributed. Entry-level positions saw a 73% decrease in hiring rates over the past year, compared to just a 7% decrease across all job levels overall, with junior roles in engineering particularly impacted. Entry-level hiring at the 15 biggest tech firms fell 25% from 2023 to 2024.

What this means for you? The market is rewarding engineers who can ship features end-to-end with minimal oversight—which sits squarely in the senior and senior-mid range.

If you're trying to grow your team in 2026, the math has changed: hiring two strong senior LatAm engineers usually beats hiring one US senior plus two juniors, especially when AI tooling has compressed the productivity gap on the senior side. We're seeing clients restructure their first-15-engineer plans around this pattern. The companies winning right now run leaner pods of senior generalists rather than traditional pyramids.

Company Updates 👋

At iDelsoft, we're motivated by our mission. Learn how we're working toward that with the latest updates coming from iDelsoft and our partners.

A quick read on what's driving the shift we're seeing in client requests. Three forces are converging:

  1. US senior engineer comp inflation has flattened, but LatAm senior comp is still 60-75% lower with comparable output—so the spread that made nearshore attractive in 2023 is now wider, not narrower.

  2. Return-to-office mandates at larger US tech companies have pushed a wave of senior IC talent into the freelance/contract market across LatAm, especially Mexico City, Medellín, and Buenos Aires.

  3. AI tooling has compressed the productivity gap between senior and mid-level engineers, making well-managed nearshore teams output-competitive with US-based teams faster than they were two years ago.

Net effect: a window. We expect rates to rise 10-15% by Q4 as supply absorbs demand.
